Fun In Finale

It was getting cold, and I mean really cold. The nights agonisingly long and the days shorter and shorter. Slowly we came to the realisation that  it was the wrong time of year to be in Zillertal, no amount of psyche and hot chocolate was going to change this fact, so watch the video and enjoy the pictures… there was only one thing to do.

Finale is an amazing place. The sky seems to be always clear blue and even in the middle of winter it is possible to find crags in the sun that are too hot to climb at. But if it is good conditions and hard grades that float your boat then the harder crags all seem to be north facing, allowing for good friction, but watch out as the wind picks up it can get really cold!

For the last couple of years we have mainly bouldered, but Finale has changed all that. After a few big falls we got into the swing of things and really started to relax on the end of the rope. The variety of styles in all the different crags kept things interesting because Finale really has it all,  from slabs to big steep caves. For me, it’s the best place I’ve ever sport climbed, but we are off to Spain next year so we’ll see if this title holds…
